About Us...
Captain Marty Mead comes from a sea faring background. He is the son of Ray Mead, a decorated veteran of World War 2 and highest level US Merchant Marine Officer. Marty grew up on the Hood Canal of the Olympic Peninsula where he fished with his grandfather, the Great Vernon Gronemyre, and terrorized the docks of the Puget Sound in his 13ft Smoker Craft.
Marty joined the US Merchant Marine at 18, and has spent the last 20 years sailing the world's oceans from the Persian Gulf to the North Pacific Ocean. He has served on Military Sea-Lift Command vessels during the first gulf war and fished and crabbed on vessels in the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea and sailed Echo cruise ships along the Pacific Rim from Canada to the Caribbean Sea.
Marty Mead is not only a US Coast Guard licensed Captain, he is a US Coast Guard licensed Chief Engineer as well, which makes him a true Master Mariner.
In 2000 Marty decided it was time to settle down for a while. On Orcas Island he found an old dilapidated 27ft Rader Craft hull, owned by native and local hero Dr Stanley P. Williams of Waldron Island. After a bit of negotiating, the purchase was made. Designed specifically for the unique and unforgiving waters of the San Juan Islands, it was the perfect boat. After a year of refitting, the Raider-craft was re-christened as the good vessel Rockhopper from Orcas Island, and was put into service as the first private charter vessel in the San Juan Islands. It is now offered to you to explore the islands at your leisure.
"I have seen few of the world's wonders and by no means have I settled. However, in all my travels I have never seen such beauty and tranquility as the San Juan's have to offer. I only wish I could bring all of my friends here to see what beauty means in the Pacific Northwest and the San Juan Islands."
